Both the reverse and obverse designs of the 1953 5 cent saw two types: the obverse had the Shoulder Fold and No Shoulder Fold types, while the reverse had a Near Leaf and Far Leaf variety. The crossing of these two types (mixing front and back) resulted in two scarce varieties, the No Shoulder Fold with Near Leaf and the Shoulder Fold with Far Leaf. Scarce even in low grades, these 'mule' varieties are virtually unheard of in Mint State. This NSF near leaf coin stands alone as the only uncirculated example of the type graded by PCGS (3/11). This coin's chrome finish is full blaze white without a hint of corrosion and the surfaces are mirror-like. An unrivalled rarity.
