Description Technical Specs Extended Information
This stunning coin is the second in the Royal Canadian Mint’s Butterflies of Canada series, and showcases the stately Red-Spotted Purple butterfly, otherwise known as the Red-Spotted Admiral. This elegant creature is characterized by its iridescent blue markings that shimmer as it flutters through sunlight, and the red spots on its underside. In an interesting defense mechanism, this particular butterfly looks eerily similar to the poisonous Pipevine Swallowtail butterfly, and can usually be found dwelling in open woodlands and forest edges across Canada. In this image, Canadian artist Celia Godkin presents the butterfly in profile, displaying its delicate and vibrant underwing. The tell-tale iridescent purple-black-blue hue of the butterfly is complimented by a bright proof background as the creature rests atop a black-eyed susan flower. A mintage of 10,000 combined with a full ounce of 99.99% fine silver means that this beautiful coin is going to sell out fast!
