Thanks to a group of seriously dedicated early
British motoring enthusiasts, known as the Bentley Boys, North London’s Bentley
Motors Limited became well-known for its four consecutive victories at the 24
hours of Le Mans from 1927 to 1930. This
fine silver coin is dated 2003.
Despite their elegant, hand-built silhouettes, these Bentley models boasted
rugged reliability and durability. In 1930, Bentley Boy and Chairman of the
company, Woolf Barnato, famously out raced a train in a Bentley Speed Six
during one of the many Blue Train Races — a series of record-breaking
competitions between automobiles and trains in the late 1920s and early 1930s.
Barnato later took delivery of a new Bentley Speed Six streamlined fastback
Sportsman Coupe and named it the “Blue Train Special” in memory of this
