Unique, official Canadian commemorative coin of the Royal Wedding of the year!
HRH Prince William of Wales and Miss Catherine Middleton became engaged during a trip to Kenya in October 2010. Prince William carried the engagement ring—a stunning 18-karat sapphire surrounded by fourteen diamonds which had previously belonged to Diana, Princess of Wales—with him. Prince William asked Catherine to marry him in a manner she later said was "very romantic, and...very personal." Clarence House announced the engagement to the world on November 16, 2010.
The bride and groom first met in 2001 while studying at the University of St Andrews in Scotland. During the course of their four years at St Andrews, the pair grew increasingly closer, and by the time they graduated, in 2005, it was well-known they were a couple. Observers have long speculated the two would marry, and although the engagement came as no surprise, it has elated many as it promises to be the most highly anticipated Royal wedding of recent memory.
On 29 April 2011, people across Britain, the Commonwealth, and the world will celebrate this exciting moment together with the newlyweds.
