This coin is part of a series of seven coins that celebrates the First Nations spiritual belief in the Seven Sacred Teachings, which are Love, Respect, Courage, Honesty, Wisdom, Humility, and Truth. These teachings have a history that runs old and deep into early Aboriginal culture, and are still practiced by many First Nations peoples across Canada. This coin displays a powerful image of a figure being helplessly supported by a buffalo, as the illustration makes reference to the second sacred teaching, Respect. The buffalo has culturally been entwined with the Sacred Teaching of Respect in First Nations history for a long time; the reasoning is that the buffalo has provided First Nations peoples with resources such as meat for nourishment and hide for clothing and for shelter. The person being carried on the buffalos back is a metaphor for this dependence, and therefore suggests that we must come to the realization that it is humanity that depends on nature, and the not the other way around; thus, respect for all it provides us is necessary to reach enlightenment. This one ounce coin is masterfully crafted in 99.99% pure silver with elegant selective gold plating, and features a mintage of 10,000. This limited-edition work of art is the perfect gift for anyone with an interest in First Nations spirituality, or a unique addition to any collection of silver coins.
