Description Technical Specs Extended Information

This 2014 $20 fine silver coin is third in a charming series from the Royal Canadian Mint that features the White-tailed Deer, a creature that is frequently spotted across much of southern Canada.

Multiple finishes against a brilliant mirrored background bring out the delicate details in this illustration by Claudio D'Angelo, which depicts a buck and doe leaping gracefully over a fallen pine. The details in the towering trees in the background and in the wood grain of the fallen trunk bring this charming image of deer mates to life. Across the top curve of the coin, the word and year "CANADA 2014" is engraved, while the face value of "20 DOLLARS" rests across the bottom.

This coin is struck in one troy ounce of 99.99% fine silver, and has a limited mintage of only 7,500 coins. Edge lettering around the coin indicates its metal weight. As a pure silver coin, this item is GST/HST-exempt.

About the White-Tailed Deer:
White-tailed deer are the smallest of the North American deer family, and are found from southern Canada to South America. In the summer, they tend to inhabit fields and meadows, while in the winter they generally keep to forests, preferring shelter from the harsh elements. Adult white-tailed deer have reddish-brown coats in the summer which fade to a duller grayish-brown in the winter. Male deer, called bucks, are easily identifiable in the summer and autumn by their prominent antlers, which fall off in the winter. During the mating season (also known as the rut) bucks fight over mates by using their antlers in jousting matches. Female deer, called does, give birth usually in May or June. Young deer, called fawns, wear a reddish-brown coat with white spots which helps them blend in with the forest. They are primarily nocturnal, browsing mainly at dawn or dusk.
