This beautifully-coloured cupronickel coin features the Harlequin duck, (also known as "the painted duck") which is a small sea-duck that tends to nest in concealed locations across Canada. This item is the latest in the popular Ducks of Canada series released by the Royal Canadian Mint. Presented in a proof finish, the reverse of this coin depicts a pair of Harlequin ducks standing atop small rocks covered with moss that rise from the freshwater rapids of their summer breeding habitat. The scene is leant a dynamic feel as the rapids rise behind the ducks, far into the background. Like the other coins in this series, parts of the image extend past the inner frame of the reverse, giving the illustration a special three-dimensional appearance. The artistry of this coin confirms the Royal Canadian Mint's reputation for excellence in craftsmanship, making this a fantastic addition to any collection of bird or nature-themed coins.
