Description Technical Specs Extended Information

Part of the Tradition of Hunting series by the Royal Canadian Mint, this coin aims to capture the rich heritage of the Cree First Nations cultures, with an original image created by Cree artist Tim Whiskychan. The goose hunt has been a crucial aspect of First Nations survival for thousands of years; every autumn and spring, hunters living along migration paths would hunt geese in order to provide nourishment for their communities, with the hunt sometimes yielding up to four months of meat! This coin, strikingly crafted in over two-thirds of 99.99% pure silver, depicts a First Nations hunter taking aim at a pair of Canada geese with his bow and arrow. He is bundled in traditional Cree garb, while hiding behind tall grass that is native to bodies of water where boreal forests meet grasslands. The snow melting on the water suggests this is a springtime goose hunt, while the proof-finish brilliance of the coin is symbolic of the white, bright sky. Engraved to perfection with a mintage 10,000, this fine silver coin would be a desirable addition to any collection of nature or First Nations-based coins.
