From the Royal Canadian Mint is a stunning new series of silver coins paying tribute to the beautiful, colourful songbirds of Canada!
Each bird is beautifully painted onto 99.99% fine silver. The first coin in this series has been designed by Canadian artist Derek C. Wicks, featuring a gorgeous portrait of a Northern Cardinal in a tranquil setting. The finely detailed engraving showcases this songbird’s distinctive features, such as the pointed crest atop its thick, short bill, and the soft feathers that lead to its tail. The use of selective colouring recreates the brilliant red plumage of the bird, which is viewed in three-quarter profile, as it sits nestled amidst engraved leaves and flower blossoms.
In this series: the Magnolia Warbler, the Blue Jay, the Baltimore Oriole, and the Violet-Green Swallow.
Each coin is struck in a half-ounce (15.87 grams) of 99.99% pure silver, with a broad diameter of 34mm and a face value of $10. As pure silver coins struck by the Royal Canadian Mint, this series is GST/HST-exempt.
