This 2015 $20 fine silver coin is a premium version of the Royal Canadian Mint's 99.99% pure silver bullion coin, struck in proof finish with a mirror-like background and a beautiful painted portrait over an engraved surface.
The illustration by Pierre Leduc on the reverse of the coin displays a majestic-looking wolf with rippling fur against a dusky sky in a northern landscape. His head is thrown back in an iconic howling stance, likely signalling his location to his pack-mates.
This coin is struck in one troy ounce of 99.99% pure silver, and features a mintage of 7,500 coins worldwide. As a pure silver coin, this item is GST/HST-exempt.
About the Wolf: The wolf is the largest wild member of the dog family. It can be many colours, from white to black, but most often grey. Similar to a German shepherd in size, but leaner with bigger feet and longer legs, wolves live in packs of three to seven. The pack is hierarchal, and each wolf has its own place in the group. The dominant wolf, or alpha male, stands tall with its ears up and forward. Around the alpha male, lesser-ranked wolves crouch with their tails between their legs, and lower their ears. Because these gestures are all understood by the pack, there is relatively little aggression within the order.
