This 2015 $20 fine silver Bighorn Sheep coin features a perfect combination of beautiful art and an extremely low mintage likely to result in a coin that will always be highly sought after by collectors. This is the third design in the extremely popular “Majestic Animals of Canada” series. It is also the lowest mintage, and will likely be the most elusive for future collectors to find. The first two coins in the series both sold out very quickly from the Royal Canadian Mint even though they had substantially higher mintages than this new coin. The “Iconic Polar Bear” had a mintage of 8,500, and the “Majestic Moose” had a mintage of 7,500, while this new coin has a total mintage of just 6,500 coins.
The striking design by Canadian wildlife artist Maurade Baynton features a full-body coloured portrait of a bighorn sheep that captures its grandeur in a picturesque mountain valley setting. With its head turned to the left, the muscular bighorn commands attention as it stands sure-footed atop a rocky ledge. The colour, detail and light in this image bring this majestic animal to life. The brilliant hues of the leaves and landscape add vibrancy and dimension to the background, which is dominated by the Rocky Mountains that tower over the river below.
The Royal Canadian Mint has effectively used a selective colour process to create both a vibrant and realistic full colour image of the Bighorn Sheep and a finely detailed fully engraved coin. The coin is double struck with the Royal Canadian Mint’s highest quality proof finish, and weighs just over one full ounce of .9999 fine silver. As a pure silver coin issued by the Royal Canadian Mint, this item is HST / GST exempt.
