This 2017 $20 fine silver coin features a dynamic hologram which transforms light into a myriad of dazzling colours and shapes to help tell the intertwining native Canadian story of a loon, a fish and a canoe. The hologram is formed directly in the pure silver surface of the coin as a product of innovative minting techniques. This design reflects the rich artistic heritage of the Pacific Northwest as it brings a promise of life and travel, and reminds us of all Earth’s treasures that warrant our respect and protection. The coin weighs just over one ounce of pure silver, and has a limited mintage of just 6,000. As a pure silver coin struck by the Royal Canadian Mint, this item is HST/GST exempt.
This original design by First Nations artist Corrine Hunt unites a loon, a salmon and a canoe in a promise of life and travel across this great land. The glimmering salmon hologram immediately captures the eye, while the distinctive profile of the loon dominates the center of the coin, wrapped between the salmon and the canoe that curves along the lower portion of the coin. In the background, water and trees complete the scene.
