Nostalgia, innovation, and collectability converge with this 2022 fine silver coin shaped and coloured like a vintage Pepsi bottle cap in the style used from 1950 to 1962. The coin features vibrant colours on the top side, with a classic silver proof coin finish on the obverse. The coin is officially licensed by Pepsi and has a legal tender face value of 500 Francs in the Republic of Chad.
Following a wave of American patriotism after World War II, Pepsi adopted the red, white and blue colours that have become iconic to the brand. As Rock and Roll emerged and rapidly influenced pop culture, Pepsi marketed its drink not only as the drink with “more bounce to the ounce” referencing more soda per bottle can of Coca-Cola, but also as the drink that promised more fun. For many collectors, this logo brings back fond memories of an era gone by.
Created in a drugstore by pharmacist Caleb Bradham in 1893, this carbonated beverage initially dubbed “Brad’s Drink” was renamed “Pepsi Cola” in 1898. Bradham decided to use “pepsi” as the drink’s name because it was originally advertised as a way to relieve “dyspepsia” (indigestion). Pepsi became increasingly popular during the Great Depression when 12-ounce bottles were introduced still with a 5¢ price tag, as only 6.5 ounce bottles were available beforehand. Today Pepsi is one of the most recognized brands in the world.
