Description Technical Specs Extended Information
The youngest of the Group of Seven, Franklin Carmichael was born in 1890 in Orillia, Ontario. Famous for his watercolours, many of his paintings depict Ontarian landscapes. As a boy, he decorated carriages in his father's carriage shop. The graphic scrollwork allowed him to hone design skills he would use his entire life.

In Houses, Cobalt (c. 1931-1932), he used colour linocut to depict the town of Cobalt. Carmichael's work is interpreted in exceptional detail by Royal Canadian Mint engravers. The outer frame on the reverse side features the words 'CANADA' and 'FRANKLIN CARMICHAEL' along with the date '2012' and the face value of '20 DOLLARS.' The obverse features the effigy of Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II by Susanna Blunt.

This $20 silver coin is 99.99% fine silver with a weight of 31.39 grams and a diameter of 38 millimetres.
