Description
This 2013 pure silver kilo depicts the “Virgin of the Rocks” by Leonardo da Vinci. It has been the second-kilo silver coin issued since 2012 by the Principality of Andorra. “La Vergine delle rocce” - the name of the two nearly identical in composition paintings by Leonardo da Vinci, one of which is on display in the Louvre, and the other in the London National Gallery. Limited mintage of 300 coins worldwide
The Design:
The reverse of 1kilo silver coin depicts miniature color reproduction of “Virgin of the Rocks" painting created by Leonardo da Vinci. The work represents kneeling Virgin Mary, patronizingly putting her hand above the head of John the Baptist.
The obverse of the stunning silver coin features the coat of arms of the Principality of Andorra, the name of the issuing country, coin denomination and year of issue. The lower part of the coin’s obverse is richly decorated with fancy engraved ornament.
